    Allow 25 to 30 minutes. Visit Rienzi, built in 1952, featuring gardens designed by Ralph Ellis Gunn in the 1950s. The 4.4-acre landscape includes native plants, a reflecting pool, and two steep ravines leading to Buffalo Bayou, a slow-moving river. Note: The house is not open to visitors. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

    Allow 30 to 45 minutes. Explore the John P. McGovern Centennial Gardens in Hermann Park, opened in December 2014 on 8 acres. Highlights include statues of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Confucius, Latin American revolutionary busts, rock formations, fountains, a waterfall, a Chinese pagoda, and an observation deck accessible via a ramp wrapping around a hill.

    Allow 25 to 30 minutes. Visit the Japanese Gardens, dedicated in 1992 on 5 acres. Designed by Ken Nakajima in the Daimyo style, features include a pond, waterfall, stone lantern, winding paths, crepe myrtles, Japanese maples, irises, pine and peach trees, and a central tea house. Twenty cherry trees were added in 2012.

    Walk through Hermann Park from the Centennial Garden to the Japanese Garden. See landmarks such as the replica Washington Monument, reflecting pond, Kinder Lake with pedal boats, Miller Outdoor Theatre, General Sam Houston statue, Houston Museum of Natural Science, and children's train.
